Board Science

Righty ho. Can someone help iron out the creases in my surf-knowledge?

I'm struggling with board physics at the moment. Whats the pro/cons and differences between various tails on a board I.e. squash, pin, fish etc and how does that effect your riding. The same questions apply too for various fin set ups i.e. thruster, quad, single, twin etc and how does length and fin shape play a part.

Finally what's the deal with board concaves and how do they effect board performanc?

Cheers for your help guys and gals.

I've body-boarded in/around Brighton for over 10 years now and have a great surf knowledge in all disciplines (Although a sponger, I always have had a huge love for stand-up especially the style and grace of Longboarding).

Recently I've decided to take the big step up (literally), risking being cast out by my sponge riding brethren, to follow evolutions course and learn to stand up. I am of the ethos that one can and should ride everything not only for the fun of it but to gain a better understanding of wave and ocean, and to monopolise on all conditions (i.e. I can go out at both high and low tide for both disciplines).

Cheers again

Matt

Lol true but I felt this was the better forum for it. I'll also be quite intrigued to know if anyone shapes boards in the local area?
